Day 1: Boston - Ogunquit - Acadia National Park (215 miles)

Today we will travel from Boston to Maine to visit Nubble Lighthouse. Then we will travel to the Acadia National Park to visit the summit of Cadillac Mountain. Along the way, we will be able to enjoy a beautiful view of Jordan Pond. Later, we will visit Thunder Hole. We will head for the dinner and hotel stay.

This coastal town in beautiful York County, Maine is a popular summer destination for people all over New England. In fact, the name "Ogunquit" translates to "beautiful place by the sea" in the local Native American language.

  • The perfect example of a picturesque New England lighthouse, the Cape Neddick Lighthouse, nicknamed the "Nubble" for the island on which it was built, offers beautiful seafront views and a great spot for a quaint afternoon by the sea.

Acadia National Park is located on Mount Desert Island just off the coast of Maine. This scenic park encompasses mountains, ocean shoreline, lakes, and forest. Guests can expect to see moose, black bear, whit-tailed deer, and many seabirds.

  • This mountain sits at the center of Acadia National Park in Maine. There are numerous hiking trails that lead to the summit at 1,528 feet. There is also a road that leads to the top.
  • Thunder Hole is an impressive blowhole in Acadia National Park, Maine. Seawater is pushed into a submerged cave and shoots up through the ground as high as forty feet in the air. The area offers great views as well.

Before returning to Boston, we will explore Bar Harbor, ME and visit Salem Witch Museum. We will have the chance to take a cruise of the area.

Bar Harbor is a town on Mount Desert Island in Hancock County, Maine, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population is 5,235. Bar Harbor is a popular tourist destination in the Down East region of Maine and home to the College of the Atlantic.

  • Bar Harbor, Maine sits just outside of Acadia National Park. This small New England fishing town has much to offer on its own, however, not the least of which are boat tours of the impressive and breathtaking coastline.

Salem is a city on the north coast of Massachusetts above Boston. It is well known for several local landmarks including Witch House and the Peabody Essex Museum with a rebuilt Qing-era Chinese house.

  • This kitschy show in historic Salem, Massachusetts uses wax figures to give visitors an overview of the Salem Witch Trials. Its fun gift shop and unique presentation make is a tourist favorite. It may be scary for young children.
